Environmental Jobs: A Key Sector of the Canadian Workforce

ECO Canada analyzes and tracks trends in the environmental workforce. Our data tells us that the environmental job market has been thriving.

Environmental jobs exist in every region across Canada

ECO Canada analyzes millions of job ads every year to help government, academia, Indigenous communities and industry benchmark and analyze trends to support the sustainability of Canada’s environmental workforce.

Our data tells us that the environmental job market has been thriving, with close to 100,000 unique environmental jobs advertised online in 2018.

  • 260 new environmental job ads were posted daily
  • 90% of environmental jobs are available in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta
  • The territories have the highest proportion of environmental jobs in Canada, despite only posting 1,000 job ads

We strive to deepen our understanding of the environmental job market by enhancing our sources and methods. We did just that in 2019!  We can now pinpoint occupational groups related to the environmental workforce with greater accuracy, as well as job opportunities in all regions and in both official languages.
