About Nature-Based Climate Solutions
Our Nature-Based Climate Solutions Program provides training and funding for workers leaving the natural resource sector and helps them move into nature-based climate solutions employment such as coastal restoration, forestry, and mining roles that relate to climate adaptation, watershed restoration, drought resiliency, and more.
This integrated program has the following benefits:
- Free access to ECO Canada 7-week course (valued at $2,500)
- $1,000 honorarium upon training completion
- On the job mentorship
- $ 4,500 wage subsidy for a 3-month placement with a nature-based climate solutions employer
- Access to 1-week nature-based climate solutions training program focused on in-demand skills and technical knowledge
Note: To qualify for funding, both work placements and training must be preapproved by ECO Canada and underway by July 1, 2023.

Apply Easily to the Program
1. Apply Online
Fill out our eligibility assessment and application.
2. Get Approved
Participants and employers will be informed by email once they are pre-qualified for the program.
3. Recruitment
Participants and Employers are required to find their own placements, ECO Canada can offer helpful resources such as the Job Board (where hosts can post a job and candidates can submit their resumes).
4. Sign Contracts
Funding is secured once a match is confirmed between the employer and a pre-approved participant. Contract agreements have been signed and returned to us within 15 days of being issued.
5. Secure Funding
This program offers eligible employers up to $4,500 of a participant’s salary for placements in a new full-time or part-time position of 3 months. Both the employer and candidate must fill out reports throughout the placement for the employer to receive the wage subsidy.

Breakdown for Participants
- This program has no age restriction for applicants.
- Worker may have been educated in or previously employed in the Natural Resource sector (oil and gas, forestry, mining, & fisheries.)
- Positions located in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon and The Northwest Territories.
- Workers must have Canadian citizenship, Canadian permanent residency status, or Canadian refugee status.
Breakdown for Employers
- Receive up to $4,500 in funding towards a candidate's salary
- Employers must be Canadian-owned or a Canadian subsidiary private organization, not-for-profit, municipal government, provincial or territorial governments, or Indigenous organizations.
- The host employer must provide a new, full-time or part-time permanent or seasonal position.
- Funding will cover full-time and part-time placements that are at a minimum of 3 months long.
