Celebrating Student Success: Congratulations to the 100 Hour Net-Zero Challenge Winners!

ECO Canada is proud to present Team 9: Connect Consulting Limited as the winners of the 100 Hour Net-Zero Student Challenge!

Congratulations to Emmanuel Bannerman, Christine Lee Slew, Ameera Mohd, Edidiong Okon, Leland Sion, and Jake Slusarczyk

Thank you, to all students and mentors, for your hard-work during the 100 Hour Net-Zero Challenge!

100 HOURS! That is the exact amount of time our 20 students had from September 13th, 2:00 PM to September 18th, 4:00 PM MST, to develop ground-breaking solutions to environmental issues, guided by Canada’s environmental experts.

On September 19th at ECO Canada’s Virtual Career Fair, the teams presented their solutions to a panel of esteemed judges and audience members.

In just 100 hours, Team 9 created a highly developed and detailed plan for Connect a user-friendly app for building managers and operators. The goal of Connect is to make it easy for building managers to reduce greenhouse gas emission rates and lower consumption rates of residential and commercial buildings.

How does Connect work?

Connect uses predictive model analysis that provides building managers with notifications of peak-energy events, giving ample time to plan for adjustments. Data is recorded through IoT sensors that record energy, water, temperature and humidity statistics and then transferred directly to the app.

The app provides a user-friendly interface, making the breakdown of complex energy simple to analyze and adjust accordingly. The energy data is organized in colourful graphs and charts that measure the IoT sensors in kilowatts over a specific period. This simplifies the data, making it easier to identify which areas of the building consume the most energy. Connect is also cost-efficient and easy to implement as it operates with a stable Wi-Fi connection.
